I know that I can use it more wisely than they do. I'm pretty sure that you can too.  So why do we let them take it?  Oh I'm sorry, let them coerce us in to giving it to them?  What is it?  Your and my hard earned wealth. Whether it be time, effort or money we worked hard to earn it and they don't deserve it!  Who is They?  Why the Federal Government, of course. The people that lost 68 BILLION dollars (Reuters -  AIG, Autos Offset Treasury Bank Bailout Profits - January 11 2010) of our money in a flawed and useless TARP bailout scheme. The People who created a tax code so ludicrous and complex that even the head of the IRS needs to hire «Experts» to help him prepare his taxes (The Hill - IRS Commissioner Doesn't File His Own Taxes - January 12, 2010).

When the government taxes you they are stealing your productivity and making you an indentured servant (read SLAVE).  The harder you work, the more that they take and the less likely you are to get ahead.  This is diametrically opposed to «promote the general welfare» stated in the preamble of our constitution.  The government is supposed to get out of the way and to keep enemies, foreign and domestic, covert and overt, out of our way so that we have the ability to live life to the fullest and achieve any goal we strive to reach.

Being a Libertarian I am in favor of no Federal taxes on the citizenry. However I am also a realist and understand that before we can get the people to believe we can eliminate federal taxes we must first get them to believe we can actually make changes to the tax code and structure.  That is why I am fully behind the FairTax.

If you are unaware of the FairTax let me enlighten you a little bit. Enough to pique your interest to visit their website and learn more about it from people who know a lot more than I do.  First of all the FairTax is revenue neutral meaning that the government would receive the same amount of tax as they currently do. Hey, it's not perfect but it's a start:-). The FairTax would eliminate all Personal and Corporate Federal income taxes. It will eliminate capital gains taxes, inheritance taxes and basically all current federal taxes. It replaces these with a 23% Federal Sales Tax on new end user products. It also provides a monthly rebate check for sales taxes paid up to a certain level determined to be the poverty level.

The beauty of the FairTax is that since the tax is only on end-user items the cost of producing these items will drop by about 23% because there are no taxes on the materials to make the end product.  The auto makers aren't charged a tax on the steel they make to build cars. The contractors aren't charged taxes on the nails, lumber and other materials needed to build houses.  Also, since the tax is only on new end-user products if you buy a used car or a used home you will not pay the tax again. And another thing, since all corporate taxes are eliminated (taxes you pay anyway in the increased cost of goods) businesses will flock to this country instead of running from it and taking jobs with them. Lower production costs mean more revenue to pay for the best employees and to keep them happy.
